CITRUS FOR NAUSEA

Feeling queasy? Try cutting open a lemon (or other citrus) and take several slow deep sniffs of its aroma. Aromatic particles in the fruit's oils calm overstimulated nerves in the nausea center of the brain. This can make the stomach steadier in as little as 1 minute.

TIP TO PREVENT CARSICKNESS

I have never suffered from carsickness so I cannot give advice that I know works. However, I did come across an article offering a simple solution. If you suffer this problem, perhaps you might want to try this. Try sucking on lemon candy. It is said to up saliva, which contains digestive enzymes that ease nausea.

THE IMPORTANCE OF A CUP OF HONEY-GINGER HOT TEA

As has been previously discussed on this blog, ginger-tea is good for those fighting cancer or other illnesses where nausea is a problem.  We have also discussed the benefits of green tea.  I have this recipe on my Ladybug's Sweet Treats blog and thought it would be a good recipe to share with you on this blog, too.
1-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled & grated on large side of grater to make 1 tbsp
1 regular green tea bag
1 tbsp lemon juice
2 tbsp honey
1 cup boiling water

Squeeze the juice from the ginger into a teacup, discard solids. Place the tea bag, lemon juice and honey into a teacup. Pour the boiling water into the cup, cover and steep for 3 minutes. Remove tea bag, squeeze gently and discard.
Yield: 1 cup tea

Note: Green tea is an excellent source of antioxidants that may inhibit cancer growth. This tea is a good beverage for those fighting nausea caused by any problem.

SPICE RACK REMEDIES

Have you ever considered your spice rack as a medicine cabinet? As strange as that may sound, it is a good idea. To enlighten us all, I have decided to do a 'spice rack remedies' post from time to time. If you have taking medications, as many do, try using more spices to help with your health situations. Below are the first two I will post.

  • Ginger - Ginger relieves inflammation associated with arthritic conditions, soothes nausea and indigestion, and helps fight colds and flu. I can personally say I have used ginger for years and it has helped my inflammation and stomach issues. According to Andrew Weil, MD, a graduate of Harvard Medical School and a leading proponent of Natural Healing, ginger can reduce joint stiffness and swelling as well as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. One possible risk is that excessive use by pregnant women may cause miscarriage and/or heartburn.
  • Caraway - Aids digestion. Also acts as an antispasmodic which can be helpful in treating menstrual cramps. No known risks.
These are just brief points on these spices. You can look them up online for more details if you are interested in a particular one.
